I'm dedicated to making positive change in the city of Lapeer, I've launched several initiatives to achieve this goal, including "Coffee with a Commish," a program that encourages community members to engage in conversations with me about local issues. .

I'm committed to making a difference in our community. By doing things such as Coffee with a Commish teen addition, which seeks to bridge the gap between youth and local government. It's where I came up with the idea of creating a Youth Council for the city of Lapeer.

LAPEER SELFIE SPOT

I'm always thinking of new ideas or new projects to improve the lives of my constituents. Most recently, I was instrumental in helping establishing the first-ever "Lapeer Selfie Spot," a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. 

CLEANING UP TRASH

I've had the privilege of working on some amazing projects with awesome people to better this community, including city cleanups and the creation of a Lapeer City Superheroes group. If I'm honored enough to be re elected I would like to see this volunteer group continue and expand.

FLINT WATERSHED COALITION

I am involved in several community initiatives, such as the Flint Watershed Coalition and Stewardship Day. I believe that through collaboration and collective action, we can build a better future for our families and our town. Join me in making a difference in our community. 

Veterans Park Cleanup

I'm a dedicated public servant who is committed to improving the city of Lapeer. Such as spearheaded initiatives like a veterans park cleanup or cleaning up downtown Lapeer to make a positive impact. I'm not afraid to get dirty and lead from the front.

beaver dash bash

I worked with Crank 4 A Cause to bring the Beaver Dash Bash Event to the Oakdale Trails in the City of Lapeer.  The Beaver Dash Bash is a charity fundraising event created to raise money and awareness for ongoing maintenance and improvements needed for the Oakdale Trails. 

pump track committee

My current focus is on teenage development in the area, specifically in regards to recreational activities. In the city of Lapeer I sit on the pump track committee, which is a multi-use track geared toward teenagers and all age groups. I am working hard to make sure that this project is funded and completed.

Community Cookouts

I'm an active leader committed to making a difference in the City of Lapeer. Recently, I've been involved in helping with community cookouts to help those in need. 

I support Ecotourism

I've supported several projects, creating ecotourism opportunities in the city, such as the Trails of Oakdale, which created more hiking, biking, fishing, snow shoeing, cross country skiing and kayaking opportunities along Farmers Creek.

Michigan Municipal League board of trustees

I'm on the Michigan Municipal League Board of Trustees. Most recently, I encouraged the MML staff to have a breakout session at our next convention, in Traverse City, on the topic of Human Trafficking in Michigan and how we can be prepared to combat this issue in our Cities and State. My term on the MML ends in 2025, if re-elected this November 7th.

Mentorship is important

I believe that having mentors is important, and I strive to be a mentor for those looking to pursue local politics or to help those that want to get involved. I'm a strong advocate for local businesses and for social projects. My goal is to bring people together and create a more unified community.

Storms of Life

My mission is to serve the people of my city to the best of my ability. I am a proven leader who is not afraid of leading from the front during hard times and the storms of life.  I'm proud to share my experiences and passion for serving others. Through my work, I hope to make a positive impact on my community and beyond. 

Main street Steering Committee

I was on the Lapeer Main Street Steering Committee supporting our DDA, during our presentation in Lansing to move up to the select level in the Michigan Main Street Program. I was able to speak on Coffee with a Commish and Coffee with a Commish Teen Addition as part of my portion of the presentation. Since then our downtown, with the help of Michigan Main Street, has seen significant economic growth in our Main Street District.

First impressions tourism assessment

The city of Lapeer was selected to be part of the MSU Extension's FIT program in 2023. FIT is a comprehensive community assessment conducted by unannounced visitors in a host community positioned to lead development based on program results. I am part of the Lapeer Leadership Team that will be doing a presentation to the community and going over our results in September.

Statewide Connections

I have 8 years of experience as a City Commissioner and have made it my mission to make our city the best it can be. Through my work in the Michigan Municipal League (MML), I have made statewide connections with other municipalities and government leaders which is great for the city of Lapeer.

In Closing

I'm Joshua Atwood and I'm running for re-election as your City of Lapeer Commissioner. I want to continue bringing positive change to our city and ensure the voices of all citizens are heard.
